Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. launches partnership with Hispanic Heritage Month of Action
Organized by Voto Latino, Mi Familia Vota, and iAmerica
Hoboken, N.J. – Tuesday Sept. 15th was the official launch of Hispanic Heritage Month of Action (HHMA), an initiative organized by Voto Latino, Mi Familia, and iAmerica. This campaign was launched with the support of over 100 partners. The National Executive Board of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. (LSU) is excited to announce its participation as one of these partners.
This campaign runs through the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, which ends October 15, 2015. Its purpose is to increase Latino voter registration in order to show the influence and power that Latino and migrant people can have in the 2016 Presidential Election. The theme, “Build our legacy. Register to vote.”
“We are excited to have the opportunity to work alongside such amazing organizations. These organizations are leaders in their communities many of which work to provide a platform for Latino and migrant people” says LSU National Director of Philanthropy and Community Affairs, John Yates. “LSU has served as a voice for young students of color since our inception. We are a nation of migrants. We are here, we have been here, and people need to know that!”
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, LSU is encouraging its followers and supporters to participate in the #HispanicHeritageHeros social media challenge, as part of HHMA (details can be found on http://www.hhmaction.com/heroes.html). This challenge is important because it celebrates the beauty and complexity of Latino cultures. As a community we are diverse, we are successful, and we are proud. Our histories are rich and our stories are powerful. May we know them.
Hispanic Heritage Month of Action is the beginning of a much larger initiative that LSU will be working towards this year. Leading up to the 2016 Presidential Elections, LSU chapters and membership across the country will host programming that educates members of the community on the importance of voter registration.

Hispanic Heritage Month, falling annually between September 15th and October 15th, is a month that celebrates Latino cultural heritage. This month also conveniently coincides with many state’s voter registration deadlines. By 2016, 28 million Latinos will be eligible to vote, and as the second largest, fastest growing, and youngest group of Americans, Latinos hold the key to our country’s future…but only if we vote. Hispanic Heritage Month of Action is a one of a kind on-the-ground and digital voter registration campaign that seeks to shift this cultural celebration to a month of action around voter registration and community organizing.
